Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is best known for the application to treat individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (e.g., Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities). ABA treatment has successful application throughout an individual’s lifespan (e.g., childhood, adolescence, adulthood). More often, ABA has been recognized as a standard treatment for children with ASD to assist with skill acquisition (e.g., communication, social-emotional, self-help). When applied to older individuals, ABA involves teaching behaviors essential to functioning effectively in the home, school, and/or community. In addition to skill acquisition, ABA can also decrease severe problem behaviors known to compromise health and safety of self or others.
